MBSR, Mindfulness-Bases Stress Reduction, developed in 1979 by Jon Kabat-Zinn, is the gold standard in mindfulness training programs, with evidence based outcomes supported by decades of research.

This is a comprehensive, in depth training program in mindfulness practices which includes exploring the science of stress, and the benefits of applying mindfulness in daily life.

It consists of eight weekly sessions, 2.5 hours long each (the first and eighth sessions 3 hours) and a day of mini-retreat. It is preceded by a mandatory Orientation session during which you meet the teachers, get a taste of the practices, and consider the pros and cons of the program. In the traditional in person programs, individual one to one interviews follow the orientation to discuss in further detail whether this program is a good fit for the individual.

Mindfulness practices include meditation, yoga, and inquiry. No prior experience in meditation is needed. For individuals with mental health issues, physical limitations, and in recovery from addiction, the decision to participate in this kind of program should be reviewed with your medical and mental health providers, as well as counselors and support workers.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is not a medical treatment of any kind, but research studies over the last 40+ years document a broad range of benefits in the physical and psychological wellbeing of participants, as well as improvements in coping with stress and overall happiness.

Mindful Healers offers three options for engaging in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Programs: in person MBSR, the live online MBSR Collaborative Program and MBSR Anytime™.

MBSR is traditionally taught in person by a certified MBSR teacher who has undergone a lengthy and intensive training, who has met the pre-requisites in education, work experience, and who has a consistent established long term meditation practice.

At the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic, the need for delivering the skills of MBSR were heightened, and many certified MBSR teachers obtained additional training to adapt the program to a live online platform. This allowed the collaboration of two such teachers, one in New Hampshire, the other in North Carolina, to bring their talents and skills together, creating the MBSR Collaborative Program.

The MBSR Collaborative Program offers a unique experience with two fully Certified MBSR Teachers, teaching together, and the group size restricted to 8 to 16 participants. This program is particularly suited to those who want a small group experience and access to the teachers for one-on-one support.

Our world continues to evolve, in complexity and digitally. Even with the convenience of the live online program, for many individuals seeking the benefits of MBSR, it is impossible to commit 2.5 hours each week on a given day at a given time. Recognizing the need to provide 24/7 flexibility to participants, as well as seeing the opportunity that smart phone technology provided, Irena Danys MD and Rossana Magalhaes MS, EdS, LCMHC stepped back and created a new vision of how to deliver all of MBSR authentically to individuals in the small bites that they could consume, when they could best take the information in.

MBSR Anytime

MBSR Anytime™ consists of video recordings of a live online 8 week MBSR Collaborative Program, edited into short segments that can be conveniently explored on demand. Each class can be taken all at once, if time permits, or spread out as needed. The experience is “real”, as the recordings are unscripted teachings given directly to a live group of students. The students do not appear in the videos, though some of their feedback is shared anonymously written Q &A and reflections. All of the reference and home practice materials are provided, including recordings of guided meditations and bonus materials. An Orientation Session is included, as well as a Full Day of Mindfulness, with written instructions on how best to arrange that event at your own home.

MBSR Anytimeis offered by Mindful Healers as a reverse classroom experience.

Weekly one hour live online sessions with the teacher, for practice, review of key concepts, and Q & A are offered to guide and support the learning process. Registration through Mindful Healers includes fees for the classroom teaching as well as special pricing for access to the MBSR Anytimeprogram.

MBSR Anytime™ can also be purchased as a stand alone on demand learning experience. At this time, access is available for one year from the time of purchase through the Teachable platform. MBSR Collaborative Program

The MBSR Collaborative Program is a live online program, the next available sessions will be in 2026.

Weekly classes 2.5 hours long. Extra time is allowed for Class 1 and Class 8, up to 30 minutes. The program consists of a mandatory Orientation session, 8 weekly sessions and a full day mini-retreat generally on the Saturday between class 5 and 6. Please note that we work closely with each participant to keep them fully engaged should they be unable to attend a class.

Cost: $600, which includes all 10 sessions, the full Day of Mindfulness, all course materials, guided practice recordings and one to one support. Information regarding scholarship positions and payment plans available upon application.
