 Less Stress, Better Sleep - Exploring the Benefits of Mindfulness

Welcome to learning how to R*E*S*T!

The R*E*S*T method for inviting restorative sleep is a unique stepwise program developed by Irena Danys MD.

In this class you will learn how mindfulness can allow you to pause, de-stress body and mind, activate kind self-care, and gently work with anxious thoughts and sleeplessness. You will also explore the fascinating science of sleep, how it works, and how sometimes it doesn’t work, and which urban legends related to improving sleep quality are worth considering.

The program consists of 4 weekly sessions. Each session is 90 minutes long and will include instruction, active practice and interactive opportunities.

Mindfulness and compassion practices are applied to sitting, lying down, walking, and movement. Formal guided practices as well as informal daily tools will be taught. Weekly home practices will be suggested and necessary materials provided.

Brief daily journaling is an integral part of this program, so we highly recommend participants to consider what media would provide them with the most enjoyment for that activity. Any notebook is fine, some people like to add images, electronic platforms are best for others.

Who should take this program:

Anyone who struggles with mental and/or physical tension around sleep, whether that is falling asleep, staying asleep, getting back to sleep, to the extent that it creates stress in your life.

Who should NOT take this program:

If you have health concerns regarding your sleep, you should consult your provider to see whether you need to be screened with an overnight sleep study, or see a sleep specialist.

This program is appropriate for individuals without any experience in mindfulness/meditation, as well as for experienced practitioners who are interested in improving the quality of their sleep. Class size is limited to ensure individual attention.

Dr. Irena Danys is a retired physician, board certified in both Neurology and Sleep Medicine, as well as a certified teacher of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.

Location: Live Online by Zoom

This is an experiential and interactive live online program. Technical requirements include a computer or laptop with a camera and microphone for optimal functionality. If you are not familiar with Zoom, contact the instructor who will be happy to do a test session ahead of the class to get the wrinkles ironed out.

Comfortable clothing is recommended. If you choose to lie down for some practices, a yoga mat works well. Mindful movement practices are gentle, but you should verify what is best for you. Adaptations can be made for individuals as needed if the instructor is informed ahead of the beginning of the program. If you have any concerns or questions, a call or Zoom with the instructor can be set up, with pleasure.
